It never ceases to amaze me that perfection always seems synonymous with being a Christian. Christians seem to hold other Christians up on some golden pedestal which completely fascinates me. Oh we hired so and because he was a good fit and (sanctimoniously) "a Christian"...or she would NEVER do THAT she is a "good Christian woman". Wow I cant believe blahbity blah would do that! He is "a Christian". Like Christian's are all perfect. Like ANY Christian is perfect (or anyone for that matter)
What amazes me is that expectations are placed so highly on people that belong to a religion founded on imperfection. After all, if we were so perfect, why would Jesus bother coming back here to save our sorry arses?
One thing that I am sure of is, no matter where you go or what you do, people are people. Really its that simple. Humans are what humans are and they do what they do. Really. Maybe instead of setting expectations up so high and unrealistic, we should set them low when speaking of Christians. Don't get me wrong, I know a lot of good people who strive to be good. But we fail. Miserably. All the time. We do some good in the process if we are lucky, but inevitably we fail because its in our nature to succumb to ourselves.
But the great news is God's grace is astounding, all encompassing and saves us from the worst enemy....ourselves.
